Life-stage Nutrition with Prescription Foods

We believe in "life-stage nutrition" — a diet exists for your pet based on its age, activity level and underlying medical conditions.

Kittens and puppies need the increased calories and protein of a kitten/puppy food. Overweight adult cats and dogs benefit from a restricted calorie/high fiber diet. Older dogs benefit from restricted salt, calories, and reduced protein. Hunting dogs and picky eaters benefit from a nutritionally concentrated food.

Westgate Pet Clinic offers the most extensive availability of prescription foods in the entire Midwest. Prescription Diets by Hills, Royal Canin and Purina are available in convenient sizes for both the small and large pet. We offer at least two choices for every medical condition. Purchase your foods without risk, since we have a money-back guarantee that the food will meet your pet's standards.

Understanding the Grieving Process

Pets become such a part of our families that their deaths often cause intense emotional anxiety. Pets rely on family members to decide difficult medical health questions. Facing these questions may leave the pet owner discouraged, confused, angry, or guilty. Understanding these natural feelings will help resolve this complicated process.

We offer a pamphlet on the stages of grieving the loss of a companion animal. We encourage those clients searching for more support to contact one of our veterinarians or the Animal Humane Society of Hennepin County.

Pet loss support groups are available at several locations around the twin cities.  Animal Emergency Veterinary Services offers a meeting on the first Tuesday of every month at their Eden Prairie location. (  The Animal Humane Society of Hennepin County offers a drop-in Pet Loss Support Group for people who have recently lost a companion animal or who are anticipating the loss of a pet. The group is loosely structured by a facilitator and meets on Monday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Come once or as often as you like. Once Monthly Flea Protection

Flea infestation occurs in Minnesota during the summer and fall months. Our long winters are detrimental to flea reproduction.

October and November are traditionally the months with the most problems.

Examining your pet at regular intervals during flea season can be too boring and meticulous for most owners. Flea collars provide only marginal protection from infestation.

Our Mission:

We provide the quality care our clients expect and their pets deserve, by relying on the expertise and
compassion of each team member.
